When Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation retained Pickett & Associates to provide public and media relations in December 2011, the organization was in the midst of major growth. With several new features at its Monon Community Center — including the stationary surf ride, The FlowRider — and a ton of programs and activities available for the community, they were relying on earned media to drive attendance.
A strategic communications plan based on the objectives of the organzation included both traditional and social media tactics as well as paid media. A collaborative (shared) editorial/content calendar helped manage many messages. Over the years, that plan has been revised to leverage area bloggers who help spread the word about Carmel Parks & Recreation.

The Escape Experience—Engaging the Community
With the direction of the Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation's Marketing Director, the Escape Experience blog was designed, implemented, and managed by Pickett & Associates. There was a need for a more engaging avenue with which Carmel Clay Parks could attract an audience to their website, and a blog fit the bill perfectly. Pickett & Associates got to work, and the team produced a well-developed and user-friendly blog page punctually and affordably. On top of designing and coding the site, Pickett & Associates also populates the blog with posts on a regular basis. The bloggers from Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation contribute monthly, and Pickett & Associates' bloggers contribute periodically as needed. This ensures that information does not get stale on the blog, and there's now a wealth of blog posts which can be revisited in the future if need be.
